Building a foundation takes time and planning. There must be a design for the structure to be placed upon the foundation, proper weight and stress measurements must be taken, determinations for what surrounds the foundation, etc. For the tallest buildings or bridges to be safe and to withstand the forces of nature, pylons are driven down into the earth until they are mounted upon bedrock and thus become immovable.
In the Book of Mormon, in Helaman 5:12 we read: “And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”
God has a plan
How do we accomplish building a foundation upon the bedrock of our Redeemer? God has the plan and He’s given us the design. He has considered all the stresses that may come into our lives and has promised that if we follow his plan for our foundation, “mighty winds”, “shafts in the whirlwind” “hail” and “mighty storms” will have no power over us.
So, how do we begin to build our spiritual foundation, or if we’ve begun, how do we strengthen our foundation? Alma says: “But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.” (Alma 32:27)
So, let’s start there today. Let us focus on exercising a particle of faith to build a desire to believe and let that desire work in us build our love for Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ today. God be with you!
